Notes: 12/16

Notes: 12/16

Today in our Midwifery study group we talked about the Placenta and Jeanette walked us through dehydrating , drying, encapsulated the placenta. We actually one got as far as steaming, cooling and dehydrating. The next steps would have been grounding and encapsulating.
So here is how it went.
Jeanette was steaming the placenta when we arrived. She steamed it for an hour. She took it out to cool. After it was cool she sliced it into thin pieces and put on dehydrating racks to dry. She put these in the oven at 140F. And when we left they were still in the oven.
My understanding is the next steps would be grinding (in your blender) into a powder and then encapsulation.
Camille talked with us about Duncun and Shultz presentation of the placenta.
A Shultz placenta births the fetal side first. Also known as Shiny Shultz. And a Duncun Placenta births Maternal Side first and is also known as Dirty Duncun. A Shultz presentation is more common. And a Duncun placenta will lead the sack so the sack would need to be checked to make sure parts weren’t still in the Uterus.
Otherwise it was a lot of birthy chit chat.
Our next meeting will be January 6. And we are discussing normal first trimester as talked about in the notes I posted last week.
